The former Tramonto Vista Park, at 1600 S. Harbor Drive has been transformed into the Maxine Barritt Park.  The Park is named for Virginia Maxine Barritt, a civic activist, who died in Feb. 2009 at the age of 81. This  7 acre parcel of land is situated between Paws Beach and Sharkey's on the Pier restaurant.  It is beautifully landscaped and has parking, trails, restrooms, outside showers, playground swing set and beach access to the gulf.  To reserve the pavilion, call (941) 861-5000. The cost is $135 for four-hour private events and varies for for-profit events.

Construction to begin on the Legacy Trail overpass is scheduled for mid November.  This 6.2 million project will connect the Island of Venice with the Legacy Trail that travels to Sarasota.  This 900 foot long span provides a 12 foot wide path over busy 41 (Tamiami Trail.)  Motorists are relieved.
